Explorers to host car wash fundraiser
The Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) Explorers are busy training for the 2014 Governor’s Fire Prevention Day competition being held Friday, August 22 at the Minnesota State Fair.
The event offers opportunities for families to learn about fire-safe behavior, fire prevention, safe escape from a fire, as well as technological improvements in burn treatment and firefighting equipment.
The event includes a competition, where Explorers face off against Explorers from other areas to test their skills in such areas as CPR/AED, extrication, ladder raise, search and rescue room search and public speaking. Last year, the AFD Explorers took fourth place out of 24 teams.
In order to raise money for transportation to the competition, the Explorers are hosting a car wash on Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Explorers will wash cars using fire hoses behind the Alexandria Fire Department. Free will donations will be accepted.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
The AFD Explorer program is a youth extension of the fire department. Members drill with fire department members the first Monday of each month, and then drill as a group the fourth Monday of the month. They also attend the fire prevention open house and other functions.
For information, visit the AFD Facebook page. Sophomores or juniors interested in the program should talk with an Explorer or AFD firefighter.
