Experience what Douglas County has to offer
The public is invited to enjoy yoga at Brophy Park, take a bicycle training course, walk through the Silk Stocking District or learn about the Bucket Brigade.
The following free activities/classes are offered through Community Education in partnership with Douglas County Active Living:
Bicycle training course - Traffic Skills 101: Spend two days learning to ride safely and legally in traffic and on a trail. This course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat and more. The free two-day class is Friday, April 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Silk Stocking tour: Learn about the architectural gems and history of the occupants of houses built in the early days of Alexandria. Meet at Big Ole for this 1.7 mile walking tour. Check with Community Education for dates and availability.
Yoga outing: Spend an hour learning about yoga and enjoying a local county park. No experience necessary. Bring a beach towel or yoga mat. The one-session class will be held Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at Brophy Park, 4849 County Road 82 Northwest near Alexandria.
Guided hike at Runestone Park: Join in a two-mile guided hike at Kensington Runestone Park, located 14 miles west of Alexandria. The park was built around the pioneer farmstead of Olof Ohman and Karin Danielson Ohman, the discovery site of the infamous Kensington Runestone.
Through the landscape of the park, learn about the history of the property, what probably attracted Swedish immigrants to the area, and the discovery site of the famous runestone.

Funding for these opportunities is provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota's Center for Prevention, by way of Active Living Douglas County.
