Lakes Area Theatre (LAT) in Alexandria is offering the following productions this week:


Macabre intrigue is the call of the day with the Friday, October 11 show at 7 p.m. Written by Mike Murphy, The Writing on the Wall tells a partial tale of what happened in the mysterious disappearance of two sisters years ago.

Solving the puzzle for the audience will be Becky Bern, Scott Giannone, Leila Preston, Rexford Sweetwater, Greta and Sydnee Hobbs, and Mike Roers. Bob Piotrowski will provide music and Daniel Roers sound effects.


It was 142 years ago from October 8 that The Great Chicago Fire burned killing hundreds and destroying 3.3 square miles of the city.

Chicago documentarian Amelia Estelle Dellos wrote and produced the love story of Chicago socialite Bertha Honoré and Potter Palmer, a man 20 years her senior, who were instrumental in building and then rebuilding the city. Dellos adapted her PBS documentary for radio theater.

Courting Bertha: The Story of Bertha and Potter Palmer airs on Sunday, October 13 at 12:30 p.m. on KXRA 1490 AM.

Directed by Ann Hermes, the show stars Christy Meier, Kevin Lee, Gary Lund, Chuck Grussing, and Kip Sundlee. Mike Roers and Gary Lund provide sound effects with music by Kyle Olson and Bob Piotrowski.
