Early hockey lead lasts at Sauk Centre
The Alexandria boys’ hockey team built a 3-0 lead and held on late for a 3-2 win against Prairie Centre at the Sauk Centre Civic Arena last Friday night.
Alexandria’s Brady Bast got the scoring going for his team when he connected off an assist from Kevin Finley. The Cardinals added to that with second-period goals from Alec Wosepka and Chris Leary. Wosepka scored at 5:06 off an assist from Parker Revering before Leary made it 3-0 off an assist from Toby Helgeson just 23 seconds later.
That would prove to be the game winner for the Cardinals. Prairie Centre responded with goals from Cody Steward and Zack Pierskalla, but it was too late to rally all the way back.
Sam Goetsch got another win in net for Alexandria. He made 26 saves on the 28 shots he faced. Prairie Centre’s Clay Deters took the loss after getting peppered with 38 shots by the Cardinals.
Alexandria moved to 8-3-1 with the win. The Cardinals will now turn their attention to tomorrow, Thursday, as they welcome in St. Cloud Tech for a CLC tilt after they went to St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday.
