EAC: Ordinary people appreciating art
The Evansville Art Center (EAC), 111 Main Street, is operated by the Evansville Arts Coalition, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) community arts organization.
The organization is comprised of ordinary people from all walks of life who enjoy the arts and appreciate how art enhances the quality of life in rural Minnesota.
EAC strives to plan and coordinate arts events and activities that entertain, stimulate and engage people of all ages in Evansville and its surrounding communities.
Formed in 1996, EAC is funded in part by grants from the Lake Region Arts Council through an appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature.
EAC partners with area musicians and artists, local businesses, the Evansville Historical Foundation, and the Evansville Public Schools to bring artists and their art to the community.
EAC volunteers and our many friends of the arts are the core of EAC.
EAC hosted its first "Coffeehouse Poetry Night" at this location in 1998 and has continued to do Poetry Night every April since, becoming the longest running literary event of its kind in West Central Minnesota.
In October 2004, the building, originally built in 1912 and last known as the Come for Coffee restaurant, was generously donated to EAC by owners Darrell Gillespie and Gwen Erickson.
EAC, the "Live Musical Capital of West Central Minnesota," hosts Open Mic music every third Thursday evening, year round, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Area musicians volunteer their various musical talents to entertain the audience. Anyone is welcome to participate in Open Mic, or come as an audience member - all musicians enjoy an enthusiastic audience.
February's third Thursday begins EAC's third year of hosting Open Mic. EAC is a great place to enjoy a wide range of music. In addition to the Open Mic events, One-Way and Three-Way concerts, where one or three musicians entertain, are presented throughout the year. Call Peggy or Mark at (320) 834-4041 with questions.
EAC also hosts other Thursday events each month. The first Thursday is EAC Photo Club from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Please bring your camera and up to four recent photos for show and tell. Any photographer 15 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Call Mark at (320) 834-4041 with questions.
Second and fourth Thursday is EAC Writer's Group from 3:30 to 5 pm. Please bring a story or poem you have written to share. Call Connie at (320) 834-4596 with questions.
The last Thursday is Native American Study Group at 7 p.m. Call Sharon at (218) 948-2118 with questions.
All Thursday activities are free-will offering events.
In addition to Thursday events, EAC offers a variety of monthly art exhibits by area artists as well as local artists' work for sale; a free book lending library; annual children's art programs, including the EAC-ster EGG-stravaganza, Santa Day arts and crafts events; fiber arts; and a variety of art and artists programs and classes for all ages to enjoy.
Please contact Corinne at (218) 948-2377 or Karen at (218) 948-2836 for further information about these events or to join EAC and receive e-mails about all upcoming events.
