E-charging triggers change at Osakis Police Department
Douglas County commissioners approved a renewed contract with the Osakis Police Department (OPD) that will streamline record keeping.
E-charging, an initiative from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, has been implemented in Douglas County. The service allows law enforcement, court administration, the state and attorneys to correspond on cases electronically.
Interim information technology (IT) director for Douglas County, Laura Ziemer, said the contract with the OPD has not been revised since 2006; E-charging has created a need for an update.
Currently, two OPD squads are equipped with remote communication equipment necessary for E-charging. The city of Osakis has requested remote communication be added to the office computer as well.
"This will allow [the OPD] to come into the office and to process those documents electronically rather than sitting in their squad or having to pull the laptop out of the squad," Ziemer explained.
Revisions in the contract adjusted the amount charged for services provided by the IT departments as well. Hourly support charges that previously cost $30 will now be $75 and those that were $40 have increased to $100.
The monthly service charge to maintain each device is $50 and adding the office system to the existing laptops increased the cost to $150.
Ziemer said the OPD agreement is now better aligned with terms of the Alexandria Police Department contract.
LAW ENFORCEMENT DONATION
Sheriff Troy Wolbersen presented the commissioners with a $50 donation to the Honor Guard from Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen and his wife, Marilyn.
