Douglas Scientific to receive award
The Alexandria Area Economic Development commission (AAEDC) and Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce announce that Douglas Scientific of Alexandria has been selected to receive the 2012 Business and Industrial Appreciation Day (BIAD) award.
The BIAD award is presented annually to an outstanding local business by the AAEDC and Chamber, with the recipient being chosen by the boards of directors of both organizations.
Douglas Scientific provides patented Array Tape automation that enables laboratories around the world to rapidly process billions of genetic samples and chemical compounds. Array Tape is a continuous plastic film embossed with micro wells used in laboratory testing.
Douglas Scientific also designs and manufactures a full line of laboratory instrumentation to optimize dispensing and scanning in the Array Tape wells. The technology allows scientists to complete screening at unprecedented speed and fractional costs, which enables new discovery in plant genomics, animal health, human diagnostics and pharmaceutical applications.
The company recruits employees to the Alexandria region from around the world, bringing both specialized expertise and cultural diversity to the region.
Since 1984, an outstanding Alexandria area business or organization has been selected as the BIAD recipient and has been honored for their significant contribution to the social and economic vitality of the Douglas County region.
The honored company is selected based on the jobs it creates for the community and region, the investments it has made to facilities within Douglas County, and the contributions it has made to the community.
The BIAD program is a joint effort of the Chamber and the AAEDC and is focused on providing an opportunity for the Alexandria regional community to say "thank you for being a vital part of our community."
The 29th annual BIAD award luncheon will take place on Tuesday, October 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center.
