The property is already home to a Douglas Machine facility and after this expansion the size of the Alexandria facilities will grow to almost 275,000 square feet.

The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2009, and will include approximately 8,000 square feet of engineering, laboratory, research, and assembly space for Douglas Scientific, a business unit of Douglas Machine.

The balance of the space will support the packaging machinery operations of Douglas Machine.

The expansion is expected to create 10 additional jobs over the next two years. Douglas Machine currently employs more than 500.

Douglas Machine has received tax increment financing benefits from the city of Alexandria to assist with infrastructure and site preparation costs of this expansion.

Douglas Machine, an employee owned company, is a manufacturer of automated packaging equipment and is a recognized market leader in paperboard, corrugated and shrink-film packaging solutions.

Core competencies are cartoners, case-packers, tray packers, and shrink-wrappers.
