The Douglas County Sheriff’s K-9 teams attended the United States Police Canine Association Police Dog 1 Field Trial in Baxter June 22-24.

The two local teams that attended consist of canine handler Sergeant Jason Peterson with K-9 Bosco and Sergeant Wade Lerfald with K-9 Vinny.

The trial covers article searches, obedience, suspect search, agility, and several apprehension phases. A total of 87 K-9s and their handlers attended the event.

The two units were on a team that had the highest overall score on all events. Both handlers from Douglas County received first place trophies and a team trophy. Sgt. Lerfald and Vinny also took second place in the agility phase of the trial.

“Hard work pays off,” said Douglas County Sheriff Troy Wolbersen. “Sgt. Peterson and Sgt. Lerfald have been dedicated and committed to our office’s K-9 program for years and we are very proud of their work and accomplishments.”
