Donavon Schramm, 79
Donavon M. Schramm, almost 80, of Virginia, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. Marys hospital in Duluth.
He was born in Alexandria on October 25, 1933 to Marvin and Cora (Schultz) Schramm. Donavon graduated from Alexandria High School. He married Elizabeth Foslien in 1953.
His early Iron Range career was with the Teamsters, involved with the onset of the taconite process by Erie Mining located outside Aurora. He became a steamfitter-welder, which became his lifelong profession. He worked construction under Local 589 throughout many states.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, picking wild rice, visiting the land in Colorado, working with his aquariums and his outdoor pond and laughing with friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Susan (Steve) Bradow of Hibbing, Jack (Shelley) Schramm of Cohasset, Neil Schramm of Hartsel, CO, Peggy (Tim) Polson of Crystal, Dale (Vicky) Schramm of New Richmond, WI and Allen (Patricia) Schramm of Embarrass. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathy (Darrell) Patterson of Florida and Patricia (James) Wainio of Fayal; by 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. There is one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild that are soon to join the family.
He was greeted in heaven by Jesus; his parents, Marvin and Cora; brother, Rollance "Butch;" sister-in-law, Sally; and his grandson, Joshua.
The memorial service for Donavon will be held Saturday, October 5 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Virginia. The gathering of friends with family will begin at 9 a.m. and the service begins at 11 a.m. The burial will be held at a later date.
