Email News Alerts

About a dozen "jailbirds" were booked, photographed, fingerprinted and allowed to make a phone call - make that a lot of phone calls - at Bug-A-Boo Bay in Alexandria Tuesday. It was all part of the March of Dimes' fundraiser, "Jail and Bail."

Participants raised their "bail" by asking for donations from friends, family members and co-workers.

The event was a big success, raising about $11,000 toward the March of Dimes' ongoing efforts of preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

The top "jailbird" was Jeff Fassett, who raised more than $4,600. Bug-A-Boo Bay sponsored the event and provided food and beverages.

In Minnesota the March of Dimes funds nearly $1.9 million in healthy baby programs.

Since 2001, the organization has funded more than $500,000 in services for babies and families in the state.
