He has lived in Pope County for 40 years and currently lives on Lake Reno with his wife, attorney JoEllen, and their two sons, Connor and Gavin.

Of his long connection with Pope County, Doebbert said, "I don't presume to know the needs of the county any better than my constituents, but I do know the importance of my constituents' concerns and I know how to listen to them."

Doebbert attended and graduated from Glenwood High School. He obtained his bachelor of arts degree in English literature (with minors in religion and psychology) from Augsburg College.

While there, he also engaged in undergraduate studies in regional planning at the University of Oslo, Norway. He earned his juris doctorate in the night program at William Mitchell College of Law while working full time at the Minnesota Legislature. Areas of concentration included land use, environmental, and local government law.

Doebbert once worked with the Minnesota House of Representatives, first as a researcher and policy analyst, then a committee administrator, and finally as a floor advisor to the Minority Leader when the House was in session. He focused on policy and financial issues relating to agriculture, transportation and local government operations.

After spending 10 years with the Legislature, Doebbert joined the Glenwood law firm of Nelson and Obenland, which later became Nelson, Obenland and Doebbert.

In 2003, Doebbert and his family built a new office building in Glenwood and Doebbert opened a practice there with partner, Chad Larson. Larson also serves as assistant Pope County attorney.

When asked why he is running for re-election, Doebbert said that he is dedicated to the preservation of safety, prosperity and harmony in his community.

Doebbert has experience as a prosecutor, a department administrator and as an advisor to the county board and the various departments and their leaders and personnel. He has engaged in trial and appellate litigation on behalf of the county on many occasions including conflicts related to transportation and land use (zoning).

Doebbert has also been active in community and professional activities, including the Glenwood Lions Club, Glenwood Chamber of Commerce, Central Square, the Sixteenth District Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association Agricultural and Rural Law Section.

Doebbert has served four terms as Pope County attorney. "I believe that Pope County has become a safer place since I was first elected," Doebbert said. "And I believe that trend can continue with the right leadership."

The primary election is scheduled for August 10.
