Doc’s All Stars to perform free concert on Thursday
Doc’s All Stars will perform at the Red Willow Arts Coalition free concert on Thursday, August 7 at 7 p.m. on the lawn at the Douglas County Courthouse in Alexandria.
The band features music from the Big Band era, including the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and vocals that feature arrangements made for Natalie Cole and others. There will also be updated versions of some of the “classics.”
Doc’s All Stars has been playing in the Alexandria area since 1982. It has played for many civic events, including hospital balls, New Year’s Eve parties, dance clubs and out-of-town venues.
Charter members of the band who will be playing August 7 include Bill Riggs, Chuck Wencl, John “Duffy” Morten of Glenwood and Paul Engebretson, who founded the band. Michelle Wencl has been the band’s vocalist for the past 10 years.
In addition to those mentioned, there will be an additional eight or 10 All Stars present to provide that Big Band sound.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of inclement weather, listen to KXRA 1490 AM for cancellation information.
