District honors retirees for years of service

Alexandria School District 206 honored 15 employees that will retire this year at a retirement dinner on May 8. Education Minnesota Alexandria (EMA) and Alexandria School District 206 honored 15 employees that will retire this year at a retirement dinner on Wednesday, May 8.

Superintendent of schools, Rick Lahn, welcomed the crowd of family and friends. Formal recognition was given by Joyce Engel, local EMA leader and colleague.

School board members, Dr. Dean Anderson and David Anderson, read personal statements of the retirees that reflected their highlights and memories from working in School District 206 and what their plans were upon their retirement.

Many said that they were going to spend time with their children and/or grandchildren, travel, volunteer, or find ways to give back to this school district and community.

The following employees will retire this year:

Darice Cunniff, kindergarten teacher, Voyager Elementary

Jim Curwick, mechanic

Shirley Hartmann, speech pathologist

Kenneth Henning, bus driver

Jack Holder, custodian

Kathy Johnson, elementary media teacher

Joe Pasiowitz, bus driver

Dr. Terry Quist, former superintendent of schools

Mark Ripley, secondary media teacher

Meri Ripley, 1st grade teacher, Voyager Elementary

Dave Sterk, mechanic

Judy Stoltz, bus driver

Barbara Trenne, health paraprofessional, Discovery Middle School

Barb Wiener, special education teacher, Discovery Middle School

Neal Zappe, social studies teacher, Discovery Middle School.
