Discovery student earns first at chess tournament
J.J. Foster, the son of Sean and Shelli-Kae Foster and a student at Discovery Middle School in Akexandria, claimed first place honors in the under 1800 section at the Bloomington Open Chess Tournament on Saturday, November 9.
The event attracted some of the finest chess players in the state. In Foster’s section, there were 77 competitors ranging in age from younger than 10 to older than 60.
Having finished his elementary chess career, Foster hopes to continue tournament play through larger tournaments. Chess Castle of Minnesota puts on three or four tournaments a year.
Foster hopes to make it to the Winter Open in January, the next scheduled event.
