If you’re reading this before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, hurry down to the polls and vote.

The August 12 primary provided Douglas County residents with a big choice to make for Douglas County sheriff. Four candidates filed – incumbent Troy Wolbersen and challengers Greg Windhurst, Scot Umlauf and Rich Homan.

The two who receive the most votes will be on the ballot for the November 4 general election.

Those in Douglas County Commissioner District 5 also had a decision to make. Three candidates filed for the county board seat held by Dan Olson, who is not seeking reelection. They include Owen Miller, Chuck Nettestad and Elroy Frank.

State and national races that attracted two or more candidates from the same political party were also on the ballot, along with judicial positions.

The Echo Press will have a reporter at the Douglas County Courthouse on primary election night and results will be posted on the newspaper’s website,, as they become available.

See Friday’s issue for a follow-up story on the primary.
