Since 2007, Dentistry at the Center in Alexandria has participated in the annual Give Kids a Smile event. On February 7, the entire office volunteered their time to put healthy smiles on the faces of 45 underserved area children, free of charge.

During the charitable event, children ranging from the ages of 3 to 18 are able to receive the basic exams that include cleaning and fluoride. The Minnesota Dental Association encourages dental professionals to partake in the two-day event. In 2013, more than 3,000 dental professionals (including 570 dentists) delivered free care to 6,136 children across the state.

“We go a little above and beyond,” said Dr. Elizabeth Amundson. “We will also do fillings, sealants and extractions if needed.” While Amundson confirmed there was a large need for fillings and sealants, she was happy to report that no extractions were necessary that day.

“Both the kids and the parents were very appreciative,” Amundson said. “It’s a very busy but very fun day.”
