Democrats to endorse candidates Wednesday
Democrats from most of Douglas and Otter Tail counties will convene on Wednesday, May 21 in Alexandria for the DFL Senate District 8 Endorsing Convention.
Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the convention comes to order at 6:30 p.m. in Room 205, the small auditorium on the north end, at Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC).
DFL leaders say there is widespread community interest in the two candidates seeking endorsement and both are committed to bringing effective representation to this district.
Jim Miltich, seeking DFL endorsement for the 8A House seat, lives in Pelican Rapids and works as a safety facilitator at the Cargill corn-processing plant in Wahpeton.
He and his wife, Kayls, a kindergarten teacher in the Pelican Rapids schools, have three grown children and four grandchildren.
Miltich often performs in the area with his brother, Anthony, an instructor and popular musician from the Fergus Falls area.
Jay Sieling, instructor at ATCC, former small business owner, and former stay-at-home dad, is seeking endorsement for the 8B House seat (see related story).
In other Senate District business, convention delegates will elect officers for the next two years.
Senate District 8 is composed of 109 precincts in Otter Tail and Douglas counties.
District 8A includes Fergus Falls and most of west Otter Tail County. District 8B covers the city of Alexandria, Alexandria Township, precincts north and east in Douglas County, and the eastern half of Otter Tail County.
