DeLoris met her husband Walter in 1946 at the Travelers Inn caf in downtown Alexandria, which also served as the bus stop, which welcomed the returning soldiers from World War II. One of those returning soldiers was Walter Waage. The very next day he walked into the Blue Ribbon Bakery where DeLoris was working and asked her out.

On April 5, 1947 DeLoris and Walter were united in marriage. They were married for 51 years. DeLoris was an excellent cook and baker. She was known for her delicious lefse, caramel rolls, breads, potato dumplings, glorified rice and especially her doughnuts. Cooking and getting together with her relatives were a joy to her.

Following Walters death in 1998, DeLoris took several trips with Sandy to visit relatives and friends. Those were very special times.
