Defense continues to dominate for Alex

The Cardinal girls' soccer team has been a model of consistency on defense this season and nothing changed in a 1-0 overtime win against Fergus Falls on Tuesday night.

Emily Korkowski and Anna Spanbauer both came close to breaking a scoreless tie in the second half when they sent shots on goal that hit the post. That didn't cost them in the end as Anna Lee scored four minutes into overtime to give Alexandria the win.

Lee set up for a free kick from 30 yards out and didn't miss her opportunity. She put it high over the head of the Otter goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the game-winner.

The Cardinals' defense limited Fergus Falls to just eight shots on goal. Senior Sarah Bruzek had no problems turning those aside as she posted her fourth shutout in six games this season.

Alexandria is now 5-1 overall and has won five straight since losing a 1-0 game to St. Louis Park in the season opener. The Cardinals are also 4-0 in the Central Lakes Conference and sit atop the league standings with Brainerd.
