Dave Simpkins featured at Friends of the Library event
Dave Simpkins will be featured in a presentation about Sinclair Lewis on Monday, October 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Douglas County Library in Alexandria.
The event is hosted by the Douglas County Friends of the Library in celebration of National Friends of the Library Week, October 20-26.
Simpkins has been editor and publisher of the Sauk Centre Herald for 25 years, covering the life of Sinclair Lewis and the many visitors who have visited the landmark, Lewis’ Boyhood Home.
Simpkins is currently working on a book about Lewis’ early days, from childhood to college, based on the diaries he wrote from 1900 to 1908. The boyhood home is mentioned many times in the diaries, as well in Lewis’ books.
Simpkins grew up in the Twin Cities, graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism with an emphasis in community journalism.
The first story he wrote for the Sauk Centre Herald in 1985 was about the Boyhood Home of Sinclair Lewis in preparation of Sinclair Lewis Days and how the home is reflected in his stories. Simpkins will add to that story in his presentation.
