The Viking Speedway hosted a doubleheader this past weekend with Alexandria’s Jeff Crouse coming away a big winner with two super stock feature wins.

Morris’ Jamie Thorstad also came away with two feature wins in the Midwest Modified Division. Garfield driver Jason Thoennes won in the Modified feature on night one, and Street stock driver Ryan Satter of Dent captured his first ever Viking Speedway feature win on night two.

The Napa of Glenwood NLRA Late Models lined up with 25 laps on the board and 23 cars ready to race.

Brad Seng outlasted the field in the feature race. Seng positioned himself for the lead by lap five and continued his lead while the racing heated up between Dustin Strand and Donny Schatz. As the laps ticked down, Seng cruised to the win.

Jeff Wildung of Nassau took an early lead in the T&S Electric and Diamond Buick GMC WISSOTA Modifieds feature and went on to capture the win.

Wildung clinched the win followed by Cody Skytland, Dave Schroeder of Glenwood, Josh Thoennes and Shaun Peterson of Alexandria.

The Alex Refrigeration WISSOTA Super Stocks created another show-stopping race for the fans in attendance. Rocky Yeats and Jon Stepan led the field into turn one with an early caution flying over the speedway for a David Galbraith spin.

Trevor Saurer continued to work his way toward the front of the field, with Crouse doing the same. Saurer and Crouse began the chase for first with back and forth action. As the white flag was thrown, Crouse and Saurer made their way toward the checkered flag. Crouse drove to the bottom of the speedway, passing Saurer, as the cars exited turn four to claim the feature win.

As 15 laps were put on the board, and 20 cars waited in the staging area, the Sower Power WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were up to battle in a race that Thorstad took in the end.

Andrew Bangsund and Ron Saurer charged forward after an early caution with Jamie Thorstad also looking toward the lead spot. Saurer went to the bottom of the speedway and into third. Thorstad then followed suit, moving his way past Saurer and Shawn Olson.

Lap nine saw Justin Froemming and Thorstad battling for the lead. Froemming and Thorstad would make contact on the back chute, causing Thorstad to spin in front of the field. Track officials determined that Froemming was at fault for the yellow, and he was sent to the tail of the field and Thorstad was placed back at the front of the field.

That led to a win for Thorstad as he added 35 points to his season total.

The Streets Stocks lined up for 12 laps of racing and Scott Huston took an early lead.

Ryan Satter quickly moved to the front of the pack and Justin Vogel bolted from sixth to third. A red flag was thrown as the track staff and medical team checked out Huston as his car blew a tire and caused him to hit the wall hard on the front chute.

After confirming he was OK, the field of cars lined back up and Satter reclaimed his lead. Satter was able to hold off Vogel and Adam Burrows to capture his first career Viking Speedway win.

The first night of the doubleheader at the Viking Speedway featured the start of a two-win weekend for Thorstad. He held off Alexandria’s Cody Lee and Andrew Bangsund to secure the win.

The Street Stock feature saw Justin Vogel of Brooten earn a win in front of Adam Burrows and Jake Huston. Crouse has won three features so far this season and he got his second win of the year by holding off Matt Miller of Glenwood and Trevor Sauer of Dalton in the Super Stock feature on Saturday.

Garfield’s Jason Thoennes held off a couple other local drivers in Alexandria’s Shaun Peterson and Villard’s Brady Gerdes to win the Modified feature. Ricky Weiss of Headingley, Manitoba also won the Late Model feature.
