Create a puppet, try pilates or learn how to properly care for fruit trees
Community Education in Alexandria is offering the following upcoming classes.
Create a new puppet to be like a Muppet
Does your child like the Muppets? Would your child like to build his or her own puppet, write a script and put on a show?
In Puppetry Arts, students in grades 1-6 will learn to create their own Muppet sock puppet, write a script and produce and star in their very own puppet show.
Students will learn to work together as a team by putting on a performance during the last session.
Instructor Jim Black has worked with The Muppet team and has worked as a script and song writer, puppeteer and performer in the award-winning television puppet series Quigley’s Village.
Class is Mondays and Thursdays, April 21-May 8 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Voyager Elementary School in Alexandria. Cost is $29.
Learn natural body
movements at Pilates class
The public is invited to join an Introduction to Pilates class to learn natural movements of the body using slow and controlled movements.
Participants will focus on their core strength to strengthen their back, as well as flexibility, posture and balance. Bring a towel and a mat if you have one.
Instructor Britta Duffy-Buckner is a wellness instructor and trainer.
Class is Wednesdays, April 23-May 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria. Cost is $29.
Want to grow fruit trees?
It is possible to grow apples, pears, plums, apricots and cherries in this area.
In the class Apples and More, people can learn how to care for fruit trees; what varieties have proven hardy and delicious; how to plant, harvest and store fruit; and how to protect trees and fruit from disease and insects.
Instructor Lewis Struthers is a University of Minnesota master gardener of Douglas County, beekeeper and retired physician.
Class is Thursday, April 24, 7 to 9 p.m. at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria. Cost is $12.
