CR 120 in, CR 85 out
A section of Douglas County Road 85 has been re-designated as County Road 120. Now, County Road 120 runs from the north end of Lake L’Homme Dieu south along the east side of the lake – between County Roads 42 and the former County Road 85.
Before the county board’s approval Tuesday, County Road 120 stopped where the north leg of County Road 85 (also labeled 39th Avenue NE) heads east to Highway 29.
Now, that 3/4-mile stretch of County Road 85 is re-designated County Road 120 and County Road 85 no longer exists in Douglas County.
Dave Robley, Douglas County Public Works director, said the reason for the change is an effort to simplify the routing number system.A few weeks ago, Douglas County turned back the south leg of County Road 85 (also labeled Crestwood Drive NE) to Alexandria Township and gave the township $21,000 to cover two years of maintenance expenses.
Robley explained routing changes like this one were identified in the Alexandria Area 2030 Transportation Study adopted in March of 2011. Part of that study determined which roads should be state and which roads should be county, city or township roads.
Robley said the change to County Road 120 doesn’t affect addresses and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office dispatch will be notified of the change.
There is no cost involved in the re-designation action other than changes in signing by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Douglas County. The county will change route markers from 85 to 120, and MnDOT will change their signs that are along Highway 29.
