Connie was born in Minneapolis on March 26, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. John Crysler. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1935 and married Dr. Harold Stemsrud in 1937. They lived in Parkers Prairie from 1937 to 1941, where Dr. Stemsrud practiced medicine. Two sons, Bob and Bill, were born to them during that time. They moved to Alexandria in 1941. Daughter Jane was born in 1946.

Connie helped organize many community groups in Alexandria, several of which still exist today. Among those were Newcomers, Douglas County Hospital volunteers and Mobile Meals. She was the first volunteer coordinator in the Welfare Department, after serving several years as a welfare worker. She played viola in the local orchestra and in the University of Minnesota at Morris orchestra. She was a member of PEO, Womens Club, the Congregational Church and several bridge groups. She was an avid machine knitter.

Her son Bill died in 1964 from Hodgkins disease. Dr. Stemsrud passed away in 1990. In 1999, Connie moved to Grand Junction, CO, to be closer to her son and daughter and families and she was rapidly absorbed in the local community life.

She is survived by her son, Bob and daughter-in-law, Patty; daughter, Jane; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
