Conference to instruct about energy self-reliance
Area residents are invited to hear John Farrell, author of the blog Energy Self-Reliant States, speak on how to democratize the energy system with home-grown energy.
The event, Electrons on the Run, will be held Wednesday, March 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Alexandria Technical Community College, Room 209. The event is free and open to the public.
Farrell is the director of democratic energy at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR). The ILSR works to promote an equitable, sustainable, democratic and prosperous future from the bottom up, which it calls self-reliance.
Other speakers at the conference will be Rick Banke, CEO of the Runestone REA; Dan Husted of Lake Region REA; and Rick and Andy, students at Illinois State University, who will talk about the future of electricity.
“It’s important for consumers to know where their power comes from and to keep up with the coming challenges in electricity generation and transmission,” said Judy Rose of the Citizens Climate Lobby.
The event is sponsored by the Citizens Climate Lobby and the Alexandria League of Women Voters. It is funded with a bequest from the estate of Nancy Krueger Olson.
