Community Foundation to award Difference Maker grants

The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) announced plans to award grants that will help to bring about a lasting, positive change in the Alexandria area community.

AACF started the Difference Maker Grant program last year to provide leadership support and make a connection that goes beyond the grant in order to advance the project or initiative.

Thanks in large part to a grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation and rising local support, AACF plans to award up to three grants between $25,000 and $80,000 each. Local nonprofit organizations need to submit their requests online by July 15.

The Difference Maker Grant Program focuses on five key areas: education, social services that strengthen families, children and youth, health, arts and culture, and civic activities that build, promote and preserve communities.

"We're really interested in supporting projects that provide innovative solutions to community challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities," said Kelly Jenzen, chair of the AACF board of directors.

Grant applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, schools or government entities and serve residents within Douglas County.
