CLCA to present Jasper Wood
The Central Lakes Concert Association (CLCA) is proud to present Jasper Wood, who will celebrate the life and music of Jascha Heifetz.
The concert will take place Saturday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the gym at Jefferson High School.
Wood, one of Canada's top violinists, will bring his newest violin and piano recital to this performance.
Wood has established himself as a major talent of his generation. He made his first public appearance at the age of 5 and has since captured the hearts of music lovers everywhere with his "thrilling virtuosity" and his "sweet tunefulness edged in melancholy," as noted in reviews.
An acclaimed competition winner, Wood has developed a flourishing reputation as a sought-after soloist with major orchestras and as a recitalist/chamber musician throughout North America and Europe. He has been awarded both the coveted Sylva Gelbert Prize and the prestigious Virginia Parker Award from the Canada Council.
He was recently named the 2008 Favorite Classical Artist of the Year by the Canadian Independent Music Awards.
Currently, he teaches violin at the University of British Columbia.
His program will consist of the greatest hits from the 20th century's greatest violinist, Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987). It will include Beethoven's Sonata No. 5 in F "Spring" Allegro; and Vitali''s "Chaconne" in g minor.
After intermission he will feature many of Heifetz' arrangements of lighter pieces such as "Estrellita" (Little Star) by Manuel Ponce; "Zigeunerweisen" by Pablo Sarasate; and "Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair" by Stephen Foster, to name a few.
To attend this recital, you must be a member of the CLCA. To join, contact Jan Johnson at (320) 762-1350 or Bernita Darveaux at (320) 763-6248 to purchase season tickets.
