Classic Clippers earn spot in AA state tournament
The Alexandria Classic Clippers are 7-5 this season after winning four of their final five games to finish regular season play.
The Classic Clippers, an ages 35 and older baseball team, pushed to a season high three-game winning streak after taking both games in a doubleheader against the Becker Buzzards on August 3 in Becker.
Pitcher Mike Forester earned a win in both games against Becker. In the first game he earned the victory in relief of Joe Korkowski, and in the second game he pitched a complete game for the win.
The Classic Clippers also played two away games on Sunday, August 4, losing 3-2 to Monticello and winning 4-3 against Minnetonka. Adam Barta picked up the win for the Classic Clippers against Minnetonka.
After closing out the season on a winning note, the Classic Clippers finished in the top half of the North Star Classic Baseball League and will play in the AA bracket of the state tournament. The Clippers are the seventh seed and will face second-seeded Woodbury at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Burnsville.
The double elimination state tournament is spread over two weekends, with the first weekend played in Burnsville and the second weekend in Cold Spring.
