The class will teach women how to become a tough target for crime and learn how to maximize their personal safety with practical strategies focused on the avoidance of crime.

The objectives of the class are teaching attendees how not to become victims; the components of becoming a tough target; developing practical strategies to maximize personal safety; and providing physical self-defense options when they are needed.

"We want to teach women how to avoid getting in the situation to begin with and recognize the stages of crime before they happen and how to get out before it becomes an assault," said Tam Bukowski, ATCC director of safety, security and health services, who will instruct the class. "It's going to give you tactics to recognize crime before it happens and maybe get away."

Bukowski also stated that if a woman does become the victim of an assault, the class can teach them physical tactics to escape.

There is no charge to attend and preregistration is not required. The class is open to all women age 14 and older.
