Cimarron to perform free concert Thursday
Cimarron will perform at the Red Willow Arts Coalition free concert on Thursday, August 8 at 7 p.m. on the lawn at the Douglas County Courthouse in Alexandria.
Neil Witikko and Brent Cochran met at Glenwood High School and began playing guitar and singing together as The Northwest Timberland Band. They continued as a duet through college at Bemidji State University.
Upon graduation, they decided to expand their repertoire and added members Bill Engebretson on drums and Scott Kile on bass to form the country rock band Cimarron. The group was an area favorite until going on hiatus in 1988.
In the mid-1990s, Witikko and Cochran added vocalist Tim Lang. A return to the area in 2002 reunited Bill Engebretson with the band and, shortly after, they welcomed Arlyn Swenson on bass. Most recently, the group added Sami Steidl, a local fiddle player.
Cimarron incorporates three-part harmonies with rhythmic guitar, playing bluegrass, country rock, rock 'n' roll and original material.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Listen to KXRA 1490 AM for cancellation information.
