Churches invited to build Habitat homes
This summer, area churches will have a chance to take part in a local mission opportunity by joining Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) in its first Apostles Build.
The Apostles Build will see 12 or more churches come together to build two Habitat for Humanity homes. Construction on the first will begin in May and on the second in July. These churches will help to raise funds and provide volunteer builders and prayer support.
These two homes will be built in partnership with Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity through a grant award that provides 50 percent of the cost of construction for each home. It was awarded by Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity.
Another goal of the build is to involve younger congregational members. Youth ages 16 or older will be invited to take part and will be teamed up with an experienced congregational member. Youth younger than 16 are invited to participate by helping raise funds or provide prayer support, meals or snacks.
A kick-off event is planned for Thursday, January 24 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church library in Alexandria. HFHDC invites church leaders, youth leaders and anyone interested in learning more about this upcoming build event to attend.
Those who are unable to attend the kick-off event but would like to be involved should contact Kelli at the Habitat office at (320) 762-4255 or email@example.com.
