Christmas 'Grinch' stopped

A "Grinch" tried to steal a little bit of Christmas in Alexandria - but didn't get away with it.

It happened this past Sunday afternoon when a man came into the All Stop convenience store on McKay Avenue and was acting a little suspicious.

A store worker told a fellow employee to keep an eye on him and sure enough, a few seconds later, the man grabbed a Salvation Army donation kettle that was on the counter and ran out of the store.

The employee, who happened to be a law enforcement student, chased him down on foot and cornered him at the nearby Olson's Mobile Home Park.

Minutes later, police officers arrived and arrested the suspect.

The kettle, which contained about $53 in donations, was returned to the store, making Christmas a little merrier for everyone - except the suspect, a 24-year-old Alexandria man, who was charged with theft.
