Christianson reaches 1,000th point in Rocori win
The Alexandria girls got their fourth straight win and a little bit of history along with it as Amanda Christianson scored her 1,000th-career point in a 62-38 win at Rocori on Tuesday night.
Christianson passed the milestone on a three-point shot from the left wing at about the 9:00 mark in the second half. Her teammates and fans congratulated her before she was presented with the game ball.
“It was a classic moment as no one was aware going into the game that she was about to eclipse the 1,000-point mark except the coaching staff,” head coach Wendy Kohler said. “We don’t talk stats to our girls. We just want them playing the game starting first on the defensive end and together on the offensive end. At half, she had 10 so we had 1,000 [point] signs handed out quietly.”
The senior guard needed 20 points to reach the milestone and that’s exactly what she got to go along with seven rebounds.
“At that moment, Amanda’s face and her teammates’ reactions were priceless,” Kohler said. “She has worked very hard in the offseason on her skills and has become a very fundamental, strong, physical guard. [She’s] a tough matchup for opponents at 5’10”. She has never settled, but just continued to improve each season. It’s a great milestone, but I know her team goals far outweigh any personal accomplishments.”
The milestone for Christianson was part of another strong performance from Alexandria. The Cardinals used their defense to set the tone and hold Rocori to its third lowest point total of the season.
Karly Betterman had 10 points and Kendall Kohler added eight. Macy Hatlestad hit the boards for 12 rebounds. Alexandria had 14 assists with three each coming from Christianson, Betterman, Kohler and Hatlestad.
The Cardinals improved to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the CLC with the win. Alexandria’s next game is a big one with the Cardinals traveling to Fergus Falls on Friday to take on the top-ranked and undefeated Otters (11-0, 6-0 CLC).
