Cherry Street Books to host poetry reading Saturday
Cherry Street Books, in cooperation with the Lakes Area Theatre Writers Group, will host five regional authors for a Poetry and Short Prose Reading Event on Saturday, May 5 in the store beginning at 4 p.m.
Featured writers will be Luke Anderson of Battle Lake, Paul Gremmels of Glenwood, Athena Kildegaard of Morris, Gene Stark and John Zdrazil of Elbow Lake.
Anderson began writing after retiring from a career of managing non-profit organizations. Selections of his creative non-fiction and poetry are published in the 2011 Lake Region Review.
Gremmels is a freelance writer and essayist whose work has appeared in a wide variety of publications including the Lake Region Review. When he's not writing, he drives a truck for UPS.
This will be a second appearance at Cherry Street Books for Kildegaard. She now has three published books of poetry including Rare Momentum, Bodies of Light and Cloves and Honey, and her work is also included in the Lake Region Review. Kildegaard is a lecturer at the University of Minnesota, Morris and has received writing grants from both the Lake Region Arts Council and the Minnesota State Arts Board.
Stark's book of poetry, Flyover Seasons, was inspired by many years of drawing a livelihood from the land of rural Minnesota. His writing is a journey through the seasons of the great Midwestern expanse of land, called by some "flyover country."
Zdrazil, also published in the 2011 Lake Region Review, teaches middle- and high-school English and is working on a novel.
Individual books of poetry and copies of the 2011 Lake Region Review, which includes writings by 27 unique regional authors, will be available to purchase at the event.
The readings are free and open to all.
