Chase and cold search for speeder ends safely
A chase with a speeding Jeep resulted in a rollover and a two-hour search in 22-below-zero weather early Monday morning in Todd County.
The incident began at 2:35 a.m. when a Todd County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a Jeep Grand Cherokee for speeding on Todd County Road 65, west of County Road 1.
The driver of the Jeep lost control and the vehicle rolled, ending up on its top.
The suspected driver, Shane Schlosser of Osakis, fled the scene on foot and two uninjured passengers were temporarily detained by sheriff's deputies.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and fire and rescue personnel from Long Prairie and Osakis assisted at the scene and searched the area with off-road vehicles for more than two hours, according to Todd County authorities.
A State Patrol helicopter was preparing to join the search when authorities received information that Schlosser was safe and uninjured.
Criminal charges are pending, according to the Todd County Sheriff's Office.
