Charlotte Lindstrom, 87
Charlotte Haller Lindstrom, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, Rock Island, Illinois and Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Graveside services will be at held Saturday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
Charlotte was born October 14, 1926 in Edgerton, MN, the daughter of Anton and Amalie (Schmidt) Haller. She grew up and attended and graduated elementary and high school in Pipestone. She attended University of Minnesota, where she graduated in June of 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Public Health Nursing.
While at the university, she met her future husband, Harold Lindstrom, who also graduated in June of 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. They were married on campus on July 19, 1949.
Charlotte was employed as a public health nurse for the Rock Island Illinois Public Health Nursing Association for four years, and as school nurse for the Des Moines, Iowa Public Schools for 17 years. She also worked part time, some weekends, and summers to help finance her childrens education. She is past president of Chapter KT, PEO, and vice president of the Quad Cities University Women. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Des Moines, and an Eagles Club member of the Crystal Cathedral TV Church.
Charlotte and Harold were very involved in the Veterans of World War II 75thInfantry Division, and she was voted Woman of the Year in 1994 for her support.
Charlotte will be remembered for her elegance and independent spirit. She always encouraged her daughters to pursue their education, dreams, and aspirations, and especially to live their own lives.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, Harold, of Dubuque; her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Schaetzel of Lawrence, KS, Margaret Erwood of Atlanta, GA, Janet Warren of Dubuque, and Colleen (Dave) Meakins of Colorado Springs, CO; 16 grandchildren, Michael, Jenny and Katie Schaetzel, Matthew, Andy, Amalie, Adam and Eric Erwood, Louise, Donny, Jack, Charlie and Olivia Warren, and Bradley, Brian, and Jonathon Meakins; brother-in-law, Fred (Sylvia) Lindstrom and sister-in-law, Viola Larson, both of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son in law, Don Warren; her brother Roland, and her sister, Hilma.
