The Chargers' best opportunity to extend the match occurred in the second set, but they were unable to overtake Henning and lost by two points, 25-23. Henning won the first and third sets 25-16.

"The girls played hard tonight, but just couldn't put together any consistency in their play," head coach Kelly Olson said. "We have to credit Henning for pushing us all night."

Caroline Jansen led the attack for the Chargers with 11 kills on the night. On defense, Megan Kokett had 14 digs and Mariah Hansen had nine.

But the Chargers had trouble putting the ball away against Henning, making a total of 23 errors on the attack.

"They put up a nice block that forced us out of our system, and their ball control was better than ours," Olson said. "Our passing breakdowns also helped keep us from running what we wanted to."

The Chargers will use their experience on Tuesday to prepare for upcoming matches this season. After finishing with a 9-18-3 record last year, they are hoping for improvement in 2013.

"At times we looked very good, which tells me we just need to stay focused on the court and do the little things that will help us be successful," Olson said.

The Chargers' next match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Evansville.
