Brandon-Evansville trailed 32-25 at the break but rallied quickly in the second half to take a lead. The Chargers then held off one final run by Bertha-Hewitt as they hit 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch to finish the regular season 14-11 overall.

“We didn’t play very well in the first half,” head coach Dick Simpson said. “We had like 14 turnovers and ended up with 18, but they only had six for the game. We fell behind and came back fairly quickly in the second half, got the lead and held it.”

The Chargers did that behind four players in double figures. Emma Friedrich had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Elizabeth Vinson added 11 points and eight boards, while Kristine Bettermann and Megan Kokett each had 10 points.

The Chargers were aggressive on the glass, totaling 53 rebounds. Melissa Haseman had nine, while Carrigan Okerlund added eight. Kinsley Randt also had five of her team’s 18 assists.

The Chargers will now turn their attention to the 6A South tournament, where they will welcome in fifth-seeded Battle Lake on Thursday. The winner of that game moves on to play at the University of Minnesota-Morris at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
