Chargers baseball improves to 7-2
The Brandon-Evansville baseball team continued its hot start to the season with a 7-5 win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy last Friday night.
The Chargers collected 10 hits and used a nice relief stint from Tom Bosek (3-0) to secure the win. Brandon-Evansville led 4-2 before the Comets scored three runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-4 lead. The Chargers responded to that with one in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
“James Huisman started on the mound and threw well for us today, but his defense didn’t help him as much as he would have liked, committing four errors,” head coach Brian Perleberg said. “Tom Bosek entered the game in a relief appearance after Hillcrest had rallied and taken a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth and quieted the Hillcrest bats, hurling 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball, while striking out the first six batters he faced before giving up a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning.”Zach Johnson had a big night for the Chargers at the plate with two hits, including a double, to go along with three RBIs and two runs scored. Christian McGaffey added two hits and two runs, while Kevin Campbell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.“Our five, six and seven hitters carried us today,” Perleberg said. “Christian McGaffey, Kevin Campbell and Zach Johnson combined to get on base in 11 of their 12 at-bats, which was the lift that our offense needed on a day when some of our others guys were struggling.”
The win moved Brandon-Evansville to 5-0 in the Pheasant Conference and to 7-2 overall.
