Gather your friends, family and some red, white and blue.

This Independence Day, there will be many events around Douglas County for everyone to enjoy.


Check out this list of activities to make this Fourth of July memorable:


Friday, July 4

9 a.m. Healthy Choices 5K run/walk at It Figures/Fitness and Training. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. Free and open to all ages.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Registration for bean bag tournament. Tournament will start at 3 p.m. For information, contact Kent Huisman at (320) 760-7706 or Jamie Englund at (320) 760-5660.

2 p.m. Evansville Lions Grand Parade

After the parade at the school parking lot and city park, events will include Erickson’s Petting Zoo, carnival games, root beer floats, face painting, balloon artist and food vendors.

5 p.m. Evansville Community Club pork chop feed.

7 p.m. Bluedogs vs. Ashby baseball game.

8 p.m. Home Grown Talent Show. To register, call Marilyn at (320) 834-5130. Walk-ins also welcome.

9 p.m. Free watermelon feed and button and raffle drawings near the community center.

9 p.m. Evansville Fire Department street dance.

Fireworks will follow the Bluedogs baseball game.

Saturday, July 5

All-town garage sales. Listings located at city hall in the morning.

8-11 a.m. Evansville Community Farmers Market at the Faith Lutheran Church parking lot.

9-11 a.m. Bake sale at Faith Lutheran Church.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Open tours of Evansville Historical Foundation.

Free viewing of “American Exhibit” at the Evansville Art Center.

8 p.m. Music by The Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboys at the Railroad and 2nd Event Center.

9 p.m. DJ at Backroads Steakhouse.

Sunday, July 6

10:30 a.m. Community church services at Faith Lutheran Church followed by the Faith Women’s luncheon.


Friday, July 4

1 p.m. Boat parade on Lake Amelia.

5:30 p.m. Tractor pull at Old Villard School.

Fireworks on Lake Amelia at dusk.

Saturday, July 5

8 a.m.-noon Dad’s Belgian Waffles.

2 p.m. Parade and kiddie parade. To sign up, call (320) 554-7041. There will be prizes for first, second and third for the kiddie parade.

Water wars and chicken droppings contest will follow the parade.

4:30-7 p.m. Pork sandwich dinner at Methodist Church.

8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Street dance featuring Whiplash.


Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, Alexandria. Star Storm 2014 over Lake Darling. Fireworks display choreographed to music broadcast on KX92 92.3 FM. Watch from the lake, or park at the stables at Arrowwood and a free shuttle will bring you to the grounds of Arrowwood starting at 7 p.m. There will be games on the lakeside lawn. Admission is free. The show starts at 10 p.m.

Osakis Country Club. Fireworks display starting at sunset.

Evansville. Fireworks spectacular after the Bluedogs baseball game.

CORRECTION: Viking Speedway, Alexandria will not have fireworks displays over the weekend.

Villard. Fireworks over Lake Amelia will start at dusk.


Lake Osakis. The seventh annual Ferret Drive Floaters Pontoon Parade will take place on July 4. Participants can line up at 1 p.m. by Baughs Creek on the north end of Lake Osakis. The parade can be viewed from the resorts on the north end of the lake and it will pass by Battle Point County Park.

Big Chippewa Lake. The annual Fourth of July boat parade will begin at 2 p.m. on the southeast side of the lake in front of Ramsdell’s Beach.

Lake Amelia. Boat parade will begin at 1 p.m.

Lake Ida. Due to DNR recommendations due to high water, there will be no boat parade on Lake Ida this year.
