Celebrate American education
To the editor:
American Education Week is celebrated the week of November 18-22, 2013, and provides all of us an opportunity to celebrate public education. I encourage everyone to pause, think and thank those involved with educating our children.
Effectively providing a well-rounded education demands all of us work together as partners in education. Paraprofessionals, bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, health assistants, teachers, substitute teachers, guidance counselors, school social workers, administrators, business partners, and families must all work together to guide students in developing their full potential. This commitment of time, energy, and financial resources is hard work and essential work.
“There is a place in America to take a stand: it is public education. It is the underpinning of our cultural and political system. It is the great common ground. Public education after all is the engine that moves us as a society toward a common destiny... It is in public education that the American dream begins to take shape.” —Tom Brokaw
