Catherine Zulkosky, 50
Catherine Marie (Saiko) Zulkosky died peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 50.
Catherine was born April 24, 1963 in St. Cloud. She was adopted by Robert and Dorothy (Thalhubar) Saiko and grew up in Alexandria. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria in 1981.
She then continued her education at North Dakota State University and later transferred to St. Cloud State University. She was an elementary school teacher for St. Peter and St. Paul in Richmond and then went to the St. Cloud area schools as a substitute teacher.
Catherine also taught driver's education for more than 20 years. Throughout all of her years of teaching, she loved and was loved by all of her students.
She married Charles Zulkosky on July 25, 1987 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. They resided in St. Cloud and had two children, Connor and Catelyn.
Some of Catherine's hobbies included making crafts, doing her hair in different styles and getting her nails done with her daughter. She was a Minnesota Wild fan and watched many games with her son. Catherine had a very special place for animals in her heart. Throughout her life, she had many dogs, cats, hamsters and even a parrot.
Catherine and her family also hosted many foreign exchange students from places like Japan, China, Mexico and Thailand. Catherine also served as a greeter and a Eucharistic minister and in marriage encounter counseling for many years.
Catherine was a loving, caring, passionate person who always did a lot for others. She cherished the special times she had with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie; her children, Connor and Catelyn; siblings, Jo (Randy) Eiynk of Sauk Rapids, Linda (Rodney) Friedrich of St. Augusta, Nancy (Tony) Schmitt of St. Cloud, Tommy Larson of Eagan, Terry Forner of Annandale, Gary Forner of Sauk Rapids, Connie Sanden of Avon, and Wendy Rothfork of Foley.
Catherine was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Robert and Dorothy (Thalhuber) Saiko; biological mother, MaryEllen Larson; brothers, Robert Joseph Saiko and Terry Larson.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Fri-day, December 6 and again from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, both located at St. Paul's Catholic Church in St. Cloud.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 7 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. The Rev. Leroy Scheierl will officiate.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family of Catherine.
