Carol Schlangen, 97
Carol Ovedia Schlangen died peacefully at Bethany Nursing Home in Alexandria on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the age of 97.
Carol was born on May 7, 1917 in Henning to Nordal and Mabel (Peterson) Ellingson. She had many lengthy stays and six foot/leg operations at Gillettes Childrens Hospital in the early 1920s. This delayed her schooling, but she graduated from Henning High School in 1936.
She met her future husband, Don at a Glenn Miller dance in Minneapolis. The couple got married near Kansas City after Dons release from the Army. They were very happily married until Dons death in 2006.
Carol loved creating; anything from blooms in her gardens, to great meals from her kitchen, to wardrobes from the sewing machine. She loved to sing and dance but was perhaps most enthusiastic about her painting and hardanger earlier, her quilting and knitting. She was ever faithful to her church community.
Carol will be missed by many but welcomed by many more. Her legacy will live on through her family Now that makes her happy.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.
She is survived by her two children, Craig Schlangen of Alexandria and Deborah Welle of Burnsville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
