Cards volleyball outlasts Tech

It took everything they had before the Cardinal volleyball team was able to overcome St. Cloud Tech in a five-set thriller last Thursday night.

Alexandria and the Tigers went back-and-forth through four sets as the Cardinals took set one and Tech responded with wins in two and three. The Cardinals answered with their backs against the wall, winning the fourth 25-17 before taking the decisive fifth set by a 17-15 score.

"Their ability to come back from behind and regain momentum is something not every team possesses," head coach Becky Schlichting said. "It was great to see that they have this ability should the situation arise again."

It took a little bit from everybody to get the job done. Wensia Johnson had 14 kills to lead three players in double figures. Kalley Bistodeau added 13 and Liz Schultz finished with 11 kills after Amanda Haack set them all up with 40 assists on the night.

Gretchen Wilson helped the defense with a team-leading 12 digs, while Emily Kuennen had seven kills and two blocks. The win for Alexandria came despite senior Amanda Christianson having to sit with an injury.
