The Cardinals lost 6-0 in the championship to Roseau after winning 2-1 over Minot, North Dakota and Coon Rapids. Roseau’s Alex Strand got the Rams going with two first-period goals before Cole Bjugson added two more in the second to open things up in the title game.

The Cardinals couldn’t get any of their 16 shots past Roseau’s Ryan Anderson. Sam Goetsch took the loss after getting 24 saves on 30 shot attempts from the Rams.

Goetsch was the winner in net for Alexandria after a combined 44 saves in the previous two games. The Cardinals won in a shootout against Minot to move on to the title game. Alec Wosepka scored in the first period off assists from Kevin Finley and Matt Resch. Minot’s Hayden Schwartz then tied it in the second on a goal at 3:54.

Wosepka also had a hand in Alexandria’s 2-1 win over Coon Rapids last Thursday. His first-period goal off an assist from Resch gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the middle period. Coon Rapids tied it later in the second, but Jack Steffl scored what proved to be the game winner in the third off assists from Toby Helgeson and Chris Leary.

The two wins at the tournament moved Alexandria to 8-3 on the season. The Cardinals are 5-0 and sitting atop the Central Lakes Conference as the only unbeaten team left. They will play at Prairie Center Area in Sauk Centre tonight, Friday, before going to St. Cloud Apollo next Tuesday.
