Cards cruise to 6-1 victory over St. Cloud Tech
The Alexandria boys hockey team continued its success against Central Lakes Conference teams this season with a 6-1 win over St. Cloud Tech at home Thursday night.
Levi McFarlane and Ryan Marciniak both scored two goals each as the Cardinals led 4-0 after two periods. St. Cloud Tech’s Andrew Setrum scored at 14:45 in the third period, but Alec Wosepka and Cammeran Brown both netted late goals to bring the final score to 6-1.
The win helped the Cardinals to a 5-0 record against CLC opponents this season.
Alexandria’s Sam Goetsch picked up the win in goal, stopping 12 of St. Cloud Tech’s 13 shots on goal. He felt good about the way the Cardinals performed against a team that came into the game 3-3 in the CLC.
“The guys were doing their job,” Goetsch said. “We had a couple penalties but we killed them off and played well, played as a team.”
The Cardinals coaching staff was also happy with the effort they saw from the players as they worked to control the puck for most of the night. Alexandria outshot St. Cloud Tech 33-13.
“They were moving their feet, which is a big thing,” assistant coach Jon Crouse said. “Everyone was going hard tonight. We do that at home, we want to defend our home ice, which we did tonight.”
