Cards boys cross country finish 11th in state

Aaron Runge finished in 23rd place at the Class AA state cross country meet Saturday morning to lead the Cardinals boys’ team to an 11th place finish in Northfield.

Alexandria’s 266 points placed them in 11th out of 16 teams. Wayzata won the state meet with 53 team points.

Runge finished the 5-kilometer race in 16 minutes and 25 seconds. He was followed by Alexandria’s Trent Piepenburg in 41st place (16:51) and Colton Sailor in 62nd (17:15).

Rounding out the top five for Alexandria were Austin Thom in 63rd place (17:16) and Brandon Jerde in 77th (17:25).

After the race, Runge said he was happy with his place in the top 25 runners at the state meet.

“I felt we did very good, person wise,” said Runge. “I was right where I wanted to be.”
