Cardinal swimmers third at True Team meet

The Alexandria swimming and diving team hosted the Section 6A true team meet and took home a third-place trophy behind winner Sartell and second-place finisher Melrose.

The Cardinals had 23 top 16 finishes at the meet and finished with 1,396.5 points. The Sabres won with 1,712 points and Melrose had 1,568.

Eight different Alexandria swimmers had two top 16 finishes apiece. Madalyn Winger (200 freestyle, 6th, 2:07.48; 500 freestyle, 3rd, 5:43.69), Megan Bristow (200 freestyle, 9th, 2:09.51; 500 freestyle, 5th, 5:53.85), Hannah Eklund (200 IM, 5th, 2:24.73; 100 breaststroke, 4th, 1:13.47) and Abi Eck (200 IM, 15th, 2:42.56; 100 breaststroke, 16th, 1:22.03) helped pace the Cardinals with two each.

Jaylen Olson-Rodel (50 freestyle, 6th, 27.09; 100 freestyle, 8th, 59.99), Heidi Moe (50 freestyle, 11th, 27.92; 100 freestyle, 13th, 1:01.92), Macy Hatlestad (50 freestyle, 13th, 28.13; 100 freestyle, 15th, 1:03.01) and Kate LeBrasseur (100 butterfly, 7th, 1:06.81; 100 backstroke, 9th, 1:07.40) did the same to help Alexandria hold off Sauk Centre for third place.

The Mainstreeters were right there with the Cardinals throughout the day. They finished with 1,324 points, comfortably ahead of Rocori for fourth place at the meet.

Alexandria also had 15 season bests at the true team meet. Alyssa Welle and Olson-Rodel each had two, while Sheridan Allen-Opp trimmed more than five seconds of her time in the 200 IM.

The Cardinals will host another big meet on October 24 and 26 as they welcome in conference teams for the Central Lakes Conference championship.
