The Cardinals overcame hot and windy conditions to pick up their first win of the season against Detroit Lakes.

"The boys played a tough game, working very hard in heat and humidity and the 20 to 25 mph wind," head coach Cahil Collins said.

Two first-half goals put the visiting Cardinals on top by two goals. Kevin Roedel scored the first goal eight minutes into the game, with an assist by Kagan Foster. Then Foster scored a goal of his own 32 minutes into the game to give the Cardinals the two-goal advantage.

Detroit Lakes went on the attack in the second half, scoring a goal at the 52 minute mark to pull within one goal of the Cardinals. But they held off any more scoring for a 2-1 Cardinal victory.

Alexandria goal keeper Zach Lamb saved nine shots in the game.
